The workcamp started the
3rd of July 2005 lasting until the 18th.
Seven
guys came in Castiglione del Lago from five different countries
(Greece, Italy, Poland, Serbia and Slovenia) through the International
Civil Service: Alessandro, Jadranka, Katiija, Luca,
Magda,
Marianthi and Urska. We slept all together in a big room of Scuola
media of Castiglione del Lago, we took the showers a couple of hundred
meters away :-) and prepared meals in the kitchen of the kindergarden.
Every day (except saturday afternoon and sunday) we went to work for
about 6 hours, fixing bike and repainting them. Every day two people
were responsible for the meals (kitchen team) and left the work place
one hour earlier. During the free time, even with not much money
available, I tried to bring the guys together as much as possible
visiting new places (we visited Rome, Perugia and Cortona thanx to the
help of my friends and my sister), going to the beach, to the disco or
just
speaking and chatting.
I tried to take all the decisions together
with all the group with consensus, it was hard at the beginning but it
worked out very well at the end when the group was stronger, and this
made me
really happy.
After five days of work the guys of Ciclofficina
Centrale came from Rome and it was a big happening. They came by train
(with just a couple of hours of delay ... italian trains)
all with their bikes, we had a great dinner all together and they
thought us a lot of important tips and tricks for fixing the bikes.
The weekend they spent in Castiglione was very important for the
workcamp because the local people understood that we were not there
just for fun, but we really wanted to do something nice and useful and
we were able to do that!
As organizer and coordinator that workcamp
was really stressing for me, but thinking to that after almost 10 years
I remember it as a great and successful experience especially from the
personal and inter-personal point of view.
